I too am grateful for how much a single phone # and compassion can generate.

That said, there are other organization in Haiti who have been their longer, are Haitian run & or employ Haitians, & do not have some of the "issues" other agencies have had in the past with black, trans, or queer survivors of un/natural disasters that people may want to consider donating to as well. These are the lists from my blog and the latest one supporting women's orgs in Haiti from Vivir Latino to get people started:

Transnational Feminist Organizations in Haiti Relief:
http://likeawhisper.wordpress.com/2010/01/16/womens-organizations-for-haiti/

Haitian Feminist Orgs working on relief:
http://vivirlatino.com/2010/01/20/supporting-womens-orgs-run-by-haitian-women.php

comprehensive list of relief agencies working in Haiti:
http://likeawhisper.wordpress.com/2010/01/13/earthquake-hits-haiti-places-to-donate/

gay and transgender relief agencies & queer fundraising for Haiti:
http://likeawhisper.wordpress.com/2010/01/18/donate-to-gay-trans-people-in-haiti/

also itunes will give 100% of the proceeds from downloaded Hope for Haiti songs to the Red Cross.

wherever you give it's the giving that matters but I just thought people might want some options that support development/continuation of Haitian run organizations and/or Haitian-international cooperative organizations as well. If you are more comfortable giving to the red cross, give through them. If you have already given through the red cross consider giving to one of the agencies in these lists now or a month from now when the media has moved on.

Thanks for putting up links to legitimate organizations where we can contribute to help those in Haiti. With all the disgusting racist shit that some are saying about the people of Haiti, it's good to know that most people are above such ignorance.
