It is an unfortunate fact of life that there are still (and probably always will be) some people that resort to racial stereotypes and other forms of demeaning language. But there is hope... I would venture to say that the number of Americans that respect people like Jeremy for what they have been able to accomplish far outnumber the hatemongerers. Let's hope together!

Everywhere he plays, Lin is the target of cruel taunts. “It’s everything you can imagine,” he says. “Racial slurs, racial jokes, all having to do with being Asian.” Even at the Ivy League gyms? “I’ve heard it at most of the Ivies, if not all of them,” he says. Lin is reluctant to mention the specific nature of such insults, but according to Harvard teammate Oliver McNally, another Ivy League player called him a c-word that rhymes with “ink” during a game last season.

So Jeremy Lin has heard many of these racist taunts at Ivy League schools--which are dominated by the sons and daughters of American elites and are the supposed bastions of tolerance and pluralism.

Interesting.

But, while Lin scores one against the stereotype of nerdy (and short) Asian American men, it looks like we’re still not in that dream of a post-racial America (surprise, surprise).

Just a little political hobby horse of mine, but "post-racialism" should not be a dream or political goal to begin with.

Post-racialism is just a "rebranding" of colorblindness and assimilation.

It means denying one's racial and ethnic heritage and assimilating into the great white way and pretending that we are just the same.

Post-racism yes.

Post-racialism no.

There is a difference.

You would think that when people PROVE themselves to be capable of so much more than fucking stereotypes that others would, you know, actually RESPECT them. But nooo, it just goes to show that the higher up you go as a "visible minority," the more you get slammed with racial slurs/jokes and the more your abilities/judgments get questioned.

I mean, WHAT THE FUCK.
